Stefan Reuter is no longer the sports director of FC Augsburg with immediate effect. Reuter headed the FCA for over ten years and will support the club more in an advisory capacity in the future.
Reorganization at FC Augsburg: Stefan Reuter will no longer be managing director of the FCA. The club announced this in a press release. Reuter, who joined the club in December 2012, celebrated great success: FCA was able to establish itself in the Bundesliga under him and surprisingly made it into the Europa League in the 2014/15 season. In the future, he will only be available to the club in an advisory capacity. His contract, which was extended in 2021, officially ran until 2026.
Reuter: “Set the course for realignment”
According to the club, the 56-year-old made the decision in accordance with FCA President Markus Krapf: “We have had many discussions in the last few weeks and months to set the course for a realignment and create improved structures for the FCA. After After almost eleven intensive years, mastering the last transfer window and training sports director Marinko Jurendic, this is exactly the right time for me to pass on responsibilities.”
As indicated by Reuter, the succession has now largely been settled. Jurendic (45) was brought in as sports director in the summer. Since then, Reuter has been less intensively involved in day-to-day business, moving from the sidelines to the stands and also acting in the Transfer period more in the background. Jurendic and managing director Michael Ströll are said to have primarily made the decisions.
Krapf: “Reuter remains one of the faces of FC Augsburg”
Reuter was also viewed increasingly critically in the FCA environment due to the team’s stagnation that had been observed for years – a circumstance that Krapf addressed at the last general meeting. He was aware of the growing skepticism, he said, “I have had many conversations with him and one should always exercise fairness despite all criticism.”
What Reuter’s exact role will look like in the future remains to be seen. President Markus Krapf describes the realignment as a development process. Even if Stefan Reuter is now withdrawing from day-to-day business, he will remain closely connected to the club and will provide advice.” Stefan Reuter is and will remain one of the faces of FC Augsburg. He will continue to oversee the club’s home and away games watch in the stadium.
