Fritz and Viktoria in happiness
The team from Cologne took the momentum from the lucky win against Wehen Wiesbaden (2-1) last week into the early stages. Moritz Fritz gave Viktoria the lead in the sixth minute. After a free kick cross, the ball went from his body to the crossbar, but then he was able to dust off to make it 1-0. Lucky for the Cologne team: there had previously been an offside position that went undetected.
Coach Olaf Janßen’s team dominated the game from then on, but were unable to create any further clear chances. Instead, Würzburg fought its way back into the game, and an extremely competitive duel developed between the two teams in which no further goals were scored until the break.
Cologne with “referee luck”
Janssen apparently wanted more and brought in Youssef Amyn, who became a hero against Wen with two goals as a joker. And the 18-year-old also caused danger in Würzburg. Standing free in front of the goal, however, he was denied by the opposing keeper Hendrik Bonmann (48th).
After that, the luck of the referees of Cologne continued. Würzburg’s Fanol Perdedaj equalized in the 52nd minute, but the goal was disallowed for offside – just like the 1-0, a wrong decision.
Tremble once, otherwise heavily defended
The Kickers also showed up on the offensive. Marvin Pourie had a great opportunity to equalize but just missed the Cologne goal from close range (57th).
Overall, however, Viktoria managed to withstand the opposing pressure. As a result, the Würzburg stormed and determined the game, but there were no longer any great opportunities. Cologne defended the narrow lead and secured “Big Points” in the relegation battle.
