Football, 3rd league: MSV Duisburg loses at Waldhof Mannheim – football – sports

After the 0:6 against 1860 Munich last Sunday because of the embarrassing 0:1 in the Lower Rhine Cup against the regional league team SV Straelen last Wednesday, MSV experienced the third debacle within eight days.

SV Waldhof Mannheim, on the other hand, climbs to fifth place in the table and still has theoretical chances of relegation.

Mannheim better from the start

Mannheim was the better team from the start and took the lead early on. After a corner, the second ball landed at Marc Schnatterer, who chipped the ball into the penalty area from the left. Seeger had too much space there, but failed with his header at the brilliantly reacting Leo Weinkauf in the MSV goal. Weinkauf was powerless against Seeger’s shot from close range (8′).

Nothing came offensively from Duisburg. Mannheim remained the better team and made it 2-0 after 34 minutes: Kother was not attacked in front of the penalty area and hit the right corner with a well-placed shot from 20 meters. Here, too, buying wine was powerless.

Yeboah misses opportunities

But then MSV became dangerous for the first time – with the help of Mannheim. Goalkeeper Timo Königsmann stumbled a back pass from Seeger at the feet of John Yeboah, who shot the ball wide of the goal from 17 meters (35′). Shortly thereafter, Mannheim invited MSV to score again. This time Seeger bounced the ball, but Yebiah missed that chance too because Königsmann was just able to save on the line.

Instead, it was 3-0 three minutes later. Verlaat headed a Schnatterer corner into the goal unchallenged.

Martinovic scores from an offside position

Shortly after the restart, the ball was back in the Duisburg goal. Dominik Martinovic was just offside when he scored.

After the change, MSV was much more committed than in the first round and also created opportunities. However, Aziz Bouhaddouz missed twice from a promising position (51st, 64th). On the other hand, Martinvic failed with a hoe at Weinkauf (65th).

MSV shows morale

Duisburg showed morale and kept going forward in the closing stages. That was rewarded in the 84th minute when Ajani hit the far corner from the right side of the box. Kolja Pusch almost scored a second goal in injury time, but only hit the crossbar.

For the MSV Duisburg it will now continue next Saturday (2 p.m.) with a home game against SC Freiburg II. At the same time, Waldhof Mannheim is a guest at SV Wehen Wiesbaden.
