FC Ingolstadt missed out on the promotion relegation place after a 2-1 defeat at SC Verl. He’s three points away now.
After a quarter of an hour of scanning, the game picked up speed. Schanzer goalkeeper Marinus Funk (18th) first prevented the deficit when he reflexively scraped a deflected cross off the line. Dennis Linsmayer put the ball forward (20th) on the crossbar. Moussa Doumbouya converted (23rd) to give FC Ingolstadt a 1-0 lead. The 24-year-old from Guinea almost had a brace but the goal was ruled out because he was in an offside position.
The residue-tested SC Verl equalizes
But SC Verl is used to being behind. That happened to East Westphalia for the twelfth time in the 15th league game in a row. Nico Ochojski coped best with the situation this time, he quickly scored the equalizer (34′). The match was completely open again until the half-time break.
Ingolstadt collects the 1:2
In the second half both teams tried to push forward. After the back teams were good at the same time, there were no top-class chances for a long time. After about 70 minutes, the decisive phase began. First Verl (68th) gave a clear offensive sign of life, the FCI keeper Funk deflected a header from Cyrill Akono over the crossbar.
David Kopacz and Pascal Testroet had a double chance for the FCI. But the opening goal came on the other side (78th) Cyrill Akono. At Ingolstadt (83rd) Patrick Schmidt, Justin Butler and Tobias Bech should actually help to force the equalizer. But that didn’t work anymore.
