Hallesche FC suffered a home defeat against SV Waldhof Mannheim, led by ex-HFC attacker Terrence Boyd. After a successful start to the year, it is a bitter setback for the Ristic team.
Big setback for Halleschen FC in the relegation battle of the 3rd league: The HFC clearly lost the basement duel against SV Waldhof Mannheim on Friday 1:4. Former Halle attacker Terrence Boyd, of all people, scored twice for the guests, who were previously the weakest away team in the league. Halle failed to expand the gap to its opponent to seven points. The Electoral Palatinate are now within one point of the HFC. After all, the Ristic team still has the game in Haching in hand. There had previously been two wins for the hosts in 2024.
Boyd scores without celebrating
The game started evenly before Halle set an offensive tone. After a free kick into the wall, Julian Eitschberger took the follow-up shot from half-right to the left outside post (13th). Even after a short interruption due to pyrotechnics, the HFC remained in control. And then found themselves behind, thanks to returnee Terrence Boyd of all people. In his third game for the Waldhöfer, he completed a sparkling clean attack by the guests including a change of sides from close range and did not celebrate (25th). No wonder, he once scored 40 goals for the HFC. After falling behind, the hosts tried hard, but overall they lacked penetration. Mannheim had everything under control in the final third. Halle’s top scorer Dominic Baumann also acted very inconspicuously.

Double pack to decide
The second half began with the next shower for the Saxony-Anhalts. Joker Jalen Hawkins, who was far too free, took advantage of a pass from the right and slammed the ball into the corner from the right (50th). This was followed by a short period of pressure from the HFC, Baumann pulled the ball just past the near post (60th).
The spectators saw a typical third division game before the break.
Then Boyd once again pulled the hosts’ tooth for good. He injected a cross from Luca Bolay and increased it to 3-0 (66th), two minutes later the Leipzig native Friedolin Wagner put together Waldhöfer’s brace (68th). Halle, who had more shots on goal than the guests, needed a penalty kick to score a consolation goal: Jonas Nietfeld converted it (85th), Malte Karbstein had seen red for the emergency brake when Eitschberger was fouled (84th). In the end, the ailing Halle player Niklas Landgraf also had to play. Coach Ristic fears a shoulder injury.
