Another spectacle, another comfortable lead wasted: A week after the 3-4 defeat at Fortuna Düsseldorf (after a 3-0 lead), this time a 3-1 lead was not enough for 1. FC Kaiserslautern to win. At least the Lauterers kept one point in the Palatinate at 3:3 (2:1).
The goals for Kaiserslautern were scored by Boris Tomiak (13th), Marlon Ritter (24th) and Terrence Boyd (54th). Robert Glatzel (10th/65th) and Miro Muheim (73rd) scored the goals for Hamburg. HSV thus missed the return to a direct promotion place in the 2nd Bundesliga. Kaiserslautern remains in sixth place.
HSV leadership wake-up call for FCK
HSV started well and powerfully and consequently took the lead early on when Glatzel pushed a cross from Bakery Jatta over the line from close range. A wake-up call for the Lauterers in front of 50,000 spectators at the sold-out Betzenberg, who created a sensational atmosphere.
Because after falling behind, the Red Devils immediately shifted up a few gears, and that should pay off. First, Tomiak shot after a corner and scored past several Hamburg players to equalize 1-1.
As if that wasn’t enough, Ritter put his team in the lead in the 24th minute. However, he benefited from a lapse by Hamburg’s Dennis Hadzikadunic, who stumbled on a long ball, clearing the way for Richmond Tachie. Ritter shot his cross ball over the line.
Serious mistake by keeper Krahl
After the break, the Palatinate team made it 3-1 thanks to a remarkable goal from Terrence Boyd and turned sharply onto the road to victory. It shouldn’t be enough. HSV striker Glatzel reduced the score to 2:3 (65th) with his eighth goal of the season. Eight minutes later the equalizer: Muheim hit a ball onto the FCK goal. The Lauter keeper, who had made no mistakes to date, miscalculated and went under Muheim’s ball, which ended up in the net to the dismay of the Red Devils.
In the final phase, both teams had chances to win the thrilling and always entertaining duel. But it ended up being a draw that was fair overall.
