The hosts attack in period two
Shortly after the break, FC St. Pauli made an impressive comeback: Guido Burgstaller missed the ball from eleven meters (49′), Patric Pfeiffer also missed (50′), as did Lukas Daschner (53′). Daschner failed again later (63′) before the guests could have been successful again with their first notable scoring chance: After a pass from Mathias Honsak, Marvin Mehlem came to the end from five meters, but Pauli keeper Nikola Vasilj parried with a lightning reflex and saved his team in the game.
The work of the hosts was rewarded in the 81st minute: with a bit of luck, a cross from the left came through to Daschner, who stood free and gave Darmstadt goalkeeper Marcel Schuhen no chance from about five meters. In the final phase, Hamburg pushed wildly for the equalizer, Lilien tried to break the rhythm of the North Germans with substitutions and at the same time strengthen the defensive. With success: Darmstadt saved the narrow victory over time.
St. Pauli will play against 1. FC Nürnberg on the coming match day (Friday, 6.30 p.m.). Darmstadt welcomes Erzgebirge Aue (Saturday, 8:30 p.m.).
