Football | 2nd Bundesliga: 1. FC Magdeburg extends early with coach Titz

As of: January 1, 2024 7:11 p.m

In his three years as head coach, Christian Titz led 1. FC Magdeburg into the 2nd Bundesliga and established it there. Although the FCM is currently playing against relegation, the club is so satisfied with Titz’s work that his contract has now been extended early.

1. FC Magdeburg wants to work with head coach Christian Titz in the long term. The Elbstädter have now made this clear by extending the 52-year-old’s contract early. However, there is at least one question mark.

Schork: “Extension is the logical consequence”

The sports director of 1. FC Magdeburg, Otmar Schork, makes no secret of the fact that he is satisfied with Titz’s work. Although the FCM is only just above the relegation zone, Schork describes the contract extension as a “logical consequence of the previous, trusting cooperation […] The inner workings of the team and coach are still intact and show no signs of wear and tear. That’s why Schork is confident that Titz will “continue the continuous development.”

One promotion and two relegation

In fact, Titz’s merits seem to outshine the current situation in the table, which is not without danger. In his first season at FCM, the 52-year-old led the relegation-threatened Magdeburgers to stay in the third division, only to become champions the following season with a 14-point lead. Magdeburg also managed to securely stay in the league under Titz in the 2nd Bundesliga. After an initial high, the FCM fell to 13th place at the end of the current season, three points ahead of the relegation relegation place.

Focus on the second half of the season

Titz himself was satisfied with the extension. “I am pleased that we continue to work together with the team in a spirit of trust,” said the FCM coach in a statement from the club. However, neither he nor the association provided any information about how long the new working paper would be valid. Instead, Titz gave the instruction: “Our focus is now on the start of the second half of the season.” Training starts at the FCM on Tuesday (January 2nd) before going to the training camp in Belek, Turkey from January 4th to 13th.
