Food forest in Anzegem receives 5000 euros for extra planting
With the ‘Fund for nature with us’, the Belgian branch of the WWF supports small projects that focus on the protection of nature. This ranges from building ponds, to rescuing amphibians or planting food forests, such as in Anzegem.
Social dimension
The WWF received 115 applications for support, 47 were approved. Thanks to the financial support, the eight volunteers of the Gapersroute can plant fruit trees and berry bushes. “A food forest needs seven layers, which is not possible in a year. We have now planted four,” says Eefje Cottenier.
In addition to the direct impact on nature, the project must also have a social dimension. “If you can eat things from your garden, or give them out to people, it’s more satisfying than going to the supermarket.”
VZW De Klijte in Moen near Zwevegem is also among the prizes.
