The Food Bank in Assen sees the number of customers increasing. Meanwhile, the volunteers fear that the supply is decreasing. That is why the volunteer organization is ringing the bell again. Today with a special collection day.
“We have 533 mouths to feed. Then everything is welcome.” Tinus Ensing, coordinator at the Food Bank in Assen, summarizes the importance of a fundraising campaign. There is an urgent need for products, preferably things that have a longer shelf life.”
The Food Bank in Assen made an urgent appeal for products via its own social media in the local press. “That certainly won’t be the last,” Ensing thinks. He has seen the number of families at the Food Bank in his home city increase in the past six months and expects it to only increase. “With inflation and energy costs. Well, then things quickly go that way.”
According to Ensing, people will have to pay more attention to their wallets in the supermarket, which is also noticeable in the Food Bank. “Bread at the supermarket gets a discount sticker. If it is not sold then, we sometimes get it. Now you see that those loaves with a discount are still being sold. People are paying more and more attention to what they spend. less coming in.”
Ensing therefore calls it heartwarming that there is a lot of input today. “It is going well, that’s great. Last week we had a collection campaign from Jumbo, so there are now quite a lot of products. But they will be gone in no time.”
According to Ensing, it is important for the Food Bank to continue to demand attention. “Because people are not directly involved with the Food Bank when they go shopping.”
