The Foo Fighters have announced details of a new “best of” compilation, THE ESSENTIAL FOO FIGHTERS, out October 28th. The upcoming record will be available on CD and double vinyl.
THE ESSENTIAL FOO FIGHTERS includes a total of 19 tracks on the CD plus the two additional songs “Breakout” and “Waiting On A War” on the LP. The record includes their greatest hits, including two versions of “Everlong” (1997) as well as “My Hero” (1997), “Best Of You” (2005) and “Monkey Wrench (1997)”. The album follows the first Greatest Hits collection released in 2009.
Tribute concert for Taylor Hawkins
On September 3rd, the Foo Fighters held a tribute concert for the late drummer Taylor Hawkins at London’s Wembley Stadium. Members of Queen, Liam Gallagher, Them Crooked Vultures, Brian Johnson and Lars Ulrich performed, among others. The Foo Fighters closed it out themselves, with a rotating cast of guest drummers including Travis Barker, Nandi Bushell and Hawkins’ 16-year-old son Shane.
Many friends paid tribute to Hawkins – including Mark Ronson, who looks back on a very emotional evening: “The whole day gave everyone the opportunity to come together and celebrate together, mourn and feel something. For the entire set of Foo Fighters I was on the verge of breaking down,” Ronson told NME.
Hawkins died on March 25, 2022 at the age of 50 in Bogotá, Colombia. A second tribute show is scheduled for September 27 at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles.
