Deliberately useless, foolish constructions. That’s folly art. In Norg, seventeen of these special structures are spread over a route of seven kilometers. The organization received more than a hundred designs from artists, architects and hobbyists.
“You can see from the people that they like to color outside the lines, as we call it, so that you get really fantastic beautiful works,” says Ina Reynders-Veldhuis, organizer of Folly Art Norg. “One folly has a fantastically beautiful message and the other has the beauty. You just have to see it.”
But whether the structures are really useless remains to be seen. “Because if the maker has come up with a beautiful design, then there is often a story behind it. The artist naturally wants to convey that to the visitor,” says Reynders-Veldhuis.
Reinier van den Berg and Ron de Vreede made the artwork ‘Norgs first pyramid’. That is a steel construction, with a coffin in the middle with a statement by Johan Cruijff.
