Appearances at Lollapalooza and Rock am Ring, two Top 10 albums, sold-out shows all over Germany – you might think that Mighty Oaks frontman Ian Hooper could put his feet up after more than ten years of band history. Far from it – Ian wants to start all over again: with a solo project.

After a first joint session with producer Tobias Kuhn and composer Philipp Steinke, the song was created, which was to be the starting signal for a new journey. That was exactly what the 36-year-old wanted. Always progress, breaking new ground, the main thing is not standing still.

“Here to Stay” is a new beginning

The result is called “Here to Stay”: a song about dreams, failure and going on, doubts and successes. It’s about believing in yourself because that’s the only way to achieve yourself: “If I would care what people say, things would never go my way”.

Ian Hooper’s solo project still remains folky. In contrast to the usual rhythmic guitar riffs, Ian now breaks out of the catchy repetitions and plays with rock style breaks that give his sensitive lyrics goosebumps. With his slightly hoarse but gentle voice, he guides his listeners in “Here to Stay” through an acoustic journey that never stands still – just like Ian himself.

Ian Hooper has been the Mighty Oaks frontman since 2010

More rock than folk

That’s exactly what Ian Hooper set out to do in his solo project. He wanted to break out of the quiet folk sound of the Mighty Oaks, wished that his audience would also sing along enthusiastically and jump up and down energetically. In any case, he has set a steep template with “Here to Stay”.

“Here to Stay” has been available from all major streaming providers since October 7th. Ian Hooper’s debut album is set to follow in 2023.
