Folie à Deux: “Joker” sequel gets start date

Joker was a huge hit in 2019. The comic film has grossed more than $1 billion worldwide. A sequel seemed inevitable. It has now been announced that Joker: Folie à Deux will hit theaters on October 4, 2024.

Director Todd Phillips posted a photo of the script on Instagram back in June. At that time there was still speculation as to whether “Joker: Folie à Deux” would actually be the title of the sequel. By the way, translated it means “madness for two”. Probably a reference to Harley Quinn. Lady Gaga is rumored to be in talks for the role.

As in the first part, Phillips co-wrote the script with screenwriter Scott Silver. Joaquin Phoenix is set to star again. The 47-year-old earned laurels for his role as “Joker”. He won Best Actor at the Oscars.

Loved and hated

In Germany, “Joker” attracted just over 4 million visitors to the cinema. He reached number 6 in the annual charts behind the “Avengers” and “Star Wars”. The film divided opinions. For some critics, the film was a disappointment – too violent, too pseudo-intellectual and over-acted. For others, “Joker” was the highlight of the cinema year.
