“Focus on building subway lines without tearing down houses”

“Focus on building metro lines without demolishing anyone’s houses, since the Government of Spain is already taking care of the problems that the Madrid Cercanías network has.” This is how the transport minister responded, Oscar Puenteto the criticism of the president of the community of Madrid, Isabel Diaz Ayuso, which complained that there have been two derailments of Cercanías trains at the Atocha station in the last nine days. In a message on social network X, he had accused the president Pedro Sanchez -and by extension his Government- to “not worry” about the Madrid railway service.

Puente refers to line 7B of the Madrid metro which, since it was inaugurated by the Government of Esperanza Aguirre In 2007, it caused multiple damages to some buildings in San Fernando de Henares. Almost thirty have had to be demolished since then and some more are called to follow the same path.

Puente’s response to Ayuso has not left some Internet users indifferent, who have reproached him for his attitude as he is now a Government Minister. The same socialist leader has also taken it upon himself to respond to these criticisms with a dose of sarcasm. “I like fruit,” he has written in various responses, alluding to the controversy over the words of Isabel Diaz Ayuso during the investiture of Pedro Sánchez.

It was when the president recalled the case of the commission that Ayuso’s brother charged for managing the purchase of masks during the pandemic. At that moment, the Congressional cameras focused on Ayuso, present in the guest gallery, who apparently responded by calling Sánchez a “son of a bitch.” From the Madrid president’s office, however, they pointed out that he had said “I like fruit.”

This is not the only controversy in X that the transport minister causes. In recent days, he has also blocked the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez Almeidaand several of its councilors, for their criticism of the Cercanías service.
