Fnatic celebrates victory in LEC and looks to WM

Fnatic narrowly defeated Excel Esports in a hard-fought series in the League of Legends LEC season finale. The World Cup is in sight, but the journey is over for Excel.

“I don’t think I’ve ever screamed so much in one game,” said Fnatic jungler Iván “Razork” Martín Díaz, adding, “I won’t lie, it was pretty stressful.”

After a disappointing start to the year, both Excel and Fnatic battled their way to the season finale thanks to a convincing summer season. The duel was correspondingly exciting. After the opening win for Fnatic, Excel turned the streak. But then Fnatic fended off the match point and secured the chance of participating in the World Cup in a controlled manner in the decisive fifth game. For Excel, the departure is a bitter end after a strong performance recently.

In the duel between Fnatic and Team BDS, it will now be decided who qualifies directly for the World Cup in South Korea. The loser then still has the chance to play for the remaining World Championship starting place against Golden Guardians from the North American LCS in the so-called “Worlds Qualifying Series”.
