In addition to Norway and Sweden, the flu is now also widespread in Russia, Israel and Albania.
In Germany and Estonia it concerns local flu outbreaks and in France regional outbreaks (as in North Macedonia, Serbia, Kyrgyzstan and Ukraine). Belgium is in the category of countries that report a sporadic spread.
In terms of intensity, we are on the baseline in Belgium. The intensity is low in France, Denmark and Sweden, as in Estonia, Latvia, Bulgaria and Russia. In Serbia and North Macedonia on the eastern border of the European Union, the intensity is medium.
According to virologist Johan Neyts (KU Leuven), it is important to keep the flu away from our country for as long as possible now that we are in the middle of the omikron wave. “The longer we can put it off beyond the omicron wave – and closer to spring – the better,” he said on social media.
