Flowers and candles at the scene of a deadly Weiteveen tragedy

Two days after the deadly drama in Weiteveen, the police are still conducting forensic investigations at the Bargerweg. That road has been closed off near the house where one of the murdered victims was found on Tuesday.

Just outside that barrier, people have now laid flowers and candles are being burned. As a precaution, the police have placed security guards around the cordoned off house to keep any curious people at a distance.

The tragedy of Tuesday is also reverberating at schools, when two residents of Weiteveen were shot dead, probably by Richard K., who is registered in Klazienaveen.

A local resident who has a child in the class of one of the victims’ children says that they are working on a gesture at the school: the photos of all students are cut in the shape of a heart. These are then stuck or hung in a kind of tree. The intention is that the victims’ children receive these as support.

A donation campaign has been set up on the internet to raise money for the children of the victims. “We want to support the children and show compassion through a donation campaign,” it reads.
