Florida executes man who killed two women in 1990s | Abroad

Michael Zack was killed by lethal injection in Raiford prison around 6 p.m. (midnight Belgian time). In a message published by a group of residents opposed to the death penalty, Zack expressed his regret for his actions.

The man was sentenced to death in 1997 for sexual violence, theft and manslaughter of a woman he had recently encountered in a bar. He was also found guilty of the manslaughter of another woman he met in a bar during the same period. He was sentenced to life in prison for that crime.

His lawyers appealed the death penalty on the grounds that Zack suffered from mental retardation due to fetal alcohol syndrome, but all requests were denied. Also on Monday, Zack’s lawyers tried to postpone his execution before the Supreme Court.

Zack’s execution was the sixth in Florida this year and the nineteenth in the entire US. The executions were always carried out with a lethal injection.
