Florian Wellbrock leads open water relay to world championship gold

Swimming star Florian Wellbrock won his first gold at the World Championships in Budapest at the third attempt.

The Olympic champion led the German open water relay as the last swimmer after 4×1.5 km in Lupasee in 1:04:40.5 hours to victory. Second place went to Hungary ahead of Italy.

In addition to Wellbrock, Lea Boy, Oliver Klemet and Leonie Beck were also able to celebrate Germany’s successful defense of the title.

Boy had already been there when he triumphed at the previous 2019 World Cup in South Korea.

Wellbrock had previously won silver (800m freestyle) and bronze (1500m freestyle) in the Duna Arena pool.

In the open water, the Magdeburg rider also has a chance of winning the 5 and Olympic 10 km.
