News: Do you like taking on challenges? Go for the hard stuff?

Florence Torrent: I like to go for what I like. If it is difficult we will go there, if it is simpler we will go there too. There has to be an internal drive in everything you do or in every decision. If there isn’t something that tells me it’s that way, I can’t do it.

News: Were you restless since you were a child?

Torrent: Yes always. They gave me many tools in my childhood and that is key to developing creativity and discovering things in oneself.

News: What kind of tools?

Torrent: Investigate, I went to schools with a lot of art, I did music, painting, sports. That always helps personal growth, getting involved with other people, and teamwork. These tools give you the possibility of being constantly creating and allowing yourself to do so as well.

News: What are your strengths?

Torrent: Going for what I want, the drive, the conviction, the respect for what I do.

News: Its most difficult aspects?

Torrent: I am too demanding many times, with myself, with what I do, with my surroundings, and that in some situations works against me.

News: Did being the daughter of a famous mother condition you?

Torrent: Being a son already has its difficulties. A child of who you are, it doesn’t matter what role each person has. The challenge is in growth and personal search. No matter who the parents are, one has to grow up and make the leap.

News: How much did it cost you to be the woman you are today?

Torrent: And what woman am I today?

News: What woman is she?

Torrent: I am a woman in constant search, in constant growth, adaptation, learning. I like to be searching, digging, learning new ways of saying, doing, and communicating in all aspects. One never has to stop learning and changing. But being restless does not mean that I do not have stillness, temperance and moments for myself.

News: What is this moment in your life like?

Torrent: It is a new moment, as a country and as humans, a bit strange. A moment to survive at some point. At Helicia we gave everything for ten years, but now we have to overcome this wave that is happening. Personally, it was a pretty quiet year for my taste.

News: How did they manage to sustain Helicia for so long in such a complicated country?

Torrent: I really do not know. This country is a mystery. It’s hard for me to say it and I don’t like it either. It is very difficult for entrepreneurs. If you do things well, are correct and respectful, everything goes quadruple. I am a correct person and I like to do things well, so we have a hard time sometimes. This moment is not pleasant at all, when prices rise every week and our peso is worth less and less. We decided to create and produce here, but it is very difficult, it is more expensive than bringing a container with things from China. It’s a delirium. We continue because of the love we have for the company.

News: How do you work internally?

Torrent: I read a lot, do therapy, meditate, do yoga, exercise. I am always looking for different types of therapies, I research them, I like personal work, taking care of my diet, taking care of my mind. We can have the best job in the world, but if we are not doing well, we can’t do anything. Work and personal search are just as important as having a university degree.

News: What do you take into account when choosing a project?

Torrent: I am in a moment where I ask myself many more things and I allow myself to take charge of those answers. This year I spent saying no to a lot of things, not because I had too much work and money, but because a person’s career is based a lot on no’s too. They are very important decisions, although also very difficult. Maintaining that space and what you believe is worth and respecting your time and having that time valued, sometimes, costs you more no than yes. When choosing a project I decide by what I feel. If I feel that I am involved, that it has to do with me, that I want to tell what he says and that seems important to me, if I value and am valued by the people with whom I am going to work. I care much more about my quality of life and time with other humans than doing things for the sake of it like when I was younger.

News: What interested you about “Karenina in Halloween”?

Torrent: I think it is a wonderful work. Last year I worked with Eva at San Martín and I worked very well with her. She is a great author, a great person in all aspects and I find the script very interesting.

News: The protagonist of the work is an actress who has put her career aside to be a mother. What would you have done in her place?

Torrent: I don’t know, I’m not a mother, but I come from a history of mothers who have never left anything aside, who have always gotten ahead raising their children and continuing with their lives, their desires, their profession and their desire to grow. Surely that would have been my decision, to do both.

News: How does the topic of motherhood resonate with you?

Torrent: I would love to be a mother at some point. Currently not.

News: This year another interesting work for you was released. The movie “Reparo” filmed in Puerto Pirámides.

Torrent: It was a very nice movie that we made at the end of the pandemic. I spent a month and a half in a paradise that crossed me and will remain in my heart forever. It connected me with myself, with nature. Lucía Van Gelderen, the director, is from Puerto Pirámides and she has so much love for that place.

Torrent: In the love for what I do, the love for my family, being present and always accompanying us, being worthy, working with love and respect.

News: Another important woman was her grandmother Rosita.

Torrent: Yes absolutely. She was very present, she raised me and accompanied me a lot. She took me back and forth so I could be with my mom because she worked all the time. She was a very important pillar in my growth and that of my mother as well.
