Flora and Fisheries Days kicked off: which street will win the prize for the most beautiful decoration?

The Flora and Fisheries Days are coming up and that is not to be missed in Den Oever. As in previous years, the houses are decorated with flags and other decorations such as fishing nets. New this year is that the most beautifully decorated street will win a prize.

The tradition started about 30 years ago when a street prize was also given away. Later, less attention was paid to it, but by breathing new life into it, the organization hopes for a lot of enthusiasm for the fishing days after two years of absence.

Underpants fun

And it has an effect, says Arnoud Vooijs of the organization of the Flora and Fisheries Days. “It’s not that there are necessarily many more houses decorated with flags and more decoration, but you can see that the decoration is much better and more beautiful. Some people stick to a theme, with others it is literally underwear fun. one street a trap made of underpants, but you also see illuminated umbrellas and light balls.”

During a tour of the village, it is indeed noticeable that many houses have hung lights in addition to flags, and that many decorations refer to fishing. The Wieringer flag also flies on many facades. The Wieringer rainbow flag has also been frequently spotted by NH Nieuws.

The entire village is decorated not only with flags, but also with flowers. “We support people with everything they need”, Jac van der Geer tells our media partner North Head Region. “The houses are decorated, everything is done to experience and make the Flora beautiful. Not only for the inhabitants, but there are many villages in the area that all benefit from it.

Price

The winning street takes off with a neighborhood barbecue worth 250 euros. “We do hope that it is something permanent and that we can award a prize again next year,” says Vooijs. The winner will be announced tonight at 7:30 PM.

The Flora and Fisheries Days start today – with the announcement of the most beautifully decorated street in Den Oever – and last until Monday. Traditionally, the fleet review is on the final day. NH Nieuws is live here on Monday: Kelly Blok reports on TV and online from 12.15 pm.
