Floortje Dessing, struck down by a tropical virus, has positive news: ‘Tikkie better’ | show

Floortje Dessing’s health is moving in the right direction again. The presenter, who was in Bali last weekend felled by a tropical virus, is ‘as rickety as anything, but slightly better than yesterday’.

“Thanks for all the get well wishes: makes a person happy from so far from home,” writes 52-year-old Dessing on Instagram.

The presenter also assures that she is on the Indonesian island for work. ‘And no, I’m not on vacation: I’m here to draw attention to wild animals that are still used for tourism purposes. Hopefully we can create stories that explain how things really are; you have to decide for yourself whether you still want to visit those attractions when you spend your holiday here. But more on that later….when I’m on my feet again.’

Travel disorders Floortje Dessing

It is by no means the first time that Dessing has been affected by a typical travel ailment. In Colombia, for example, she contracted schistosomiasis, an infection in which worm larvae enter blood vessels through the skin. She also contracted dengue fever in Bali, rabies in Cambodia and tick-borne encephalitis in Sweden. This is an inflammation of the brain caused by a virus that infected ticks transmit. She also says she was attacked by thousands of wasps on an island in the Pacific Ocean.

In any case, her travel adventures yield award-winning TV. Dessing was recently honored with the Media Oeuvre Award for her long career full of ‘magnificent’ programs and beautiful stories. The jury, consisting of AD columnist Angela de Jong and Speak Tube publisher Richard Otto, called her a ‘class apart’. Floortje to the end of the world won the Golden Televizier Ring in 2016.
