Finland, which finished third in the Floorball World Championships, traveled home from Zurich on Monday.
On Sunday evening, we heard some sad news about the team: the two-time world champion striker Joonas Pylsy ended up in a Zurich hospital. He was diagnosed with cerebral circulation disorder.
Communication manager of the floorball association Jussi Ojala said on Monday that Pylsy, 32, is still in hospital in Switzerland.
The events described as nightmarish began on Tuesday of last week. Pylsy was named in the lineup for the last match of the preliminary series against Norway. During the warm-up, he was sidelined due to muscle cramp and dizziness. He was rushed to the hospital via first aid.
– It’s been a nightmare here for the last few days. Now, however, the situation is becoming more stable. In the coming months, we will focus fully on rehabilitation and healing. We hope for understanding and peace from people. After this, we will not comment on the matter further, national team star and Tea-wife said in the announcement of the Salibandylliito.
Communications Manager Ojala could not comment more than what was stated in the press release.
Pylsy lives and plays in Switzerland. He represents the top team of the Swiss league, Wiler-Ersigen, which is second in the league.
Pylsy has World Championship gold medals from 2016 and 2018 in his trophy cabinet. He is also a four-time Finnish champion.
Finland won the bronze medal when it defeated Switzerland 4–3 on Sunday. Sweden celebrated the world championship for the second time in a row. The Czech Republic lost to Sweden in the final with 3–9 goals.
