Floor Jansen sings national anthem for Formula 1 drivers: ‘Very special’

Floor Jansen from Goirle sang the Dutch national anthem during the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort on Sunday. The metal star of the band Nightwish sang the Wilhelmus just before the start of the race for all drivers and the public. The reactions on social media are mixed about Jansen’s version of the Wilhelmus.

On Friday, visitors to the sporting event could already hear the sounds of rehearsals. The singer was accompanied by the Royal Air Force Orchestra. The arrangements of the song were adapted to the vocal range of the 41-year-old singer.

Not standard
“It is very special that they have done that, because that is not something that everyone can say,” Jansen said to the ANP earlier. “It’s not just the standard music being played.”

Last year Davina Michelle sang the Dutch national anthem during the Dutch Grand Prix. DJ Afrojack also performed on Sunday. Later Kriss Kross Amsterdam and Lucas & Steve are still on stage.

The performance received mixed reactions on social media.
