Floods and lightning rain: the showers return to Catalonia

Catalonia has returned to see showers after a few days of extreme heat where thermometers have exceeded 35 degrees in various areas of the community. After the rains that fell this Thursday, the Civil Protection of the Generalitat keeps the Special Emergency Plan for Floods on alert in view of the forecast that heavy rains are expected in the northeast quadrant on Friday afternoon.

The showers have caused flooding since early afternoon in various areas, especially in the regions of Bages and the Western Valley. The Generalitat Fire Department has received a total of 60 notices for services related to the storm from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., the vast majority to Bages and mainly due to flooding in premises and homes. On the other hand, the emergency telephone number 112 Until 10:00 p.m., it has received a total of 121 calls due to strong storms. Most have been from Bages (57), Maresme (19) and Vallès Occidental (14).
