‘Flood victims not equally compensated’ | 1Limburg

Similar claims as a result of the high water in July 2021 are not always compensated in the same way. The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) will rectify this after all, let it know on Tuesday.

For example, some Limburgers were reimbursed for damaged garden furniture, while that was not the case for others.

Compensation
This concerns the compensation for private individuals under the Compensation for Compensation in Disasters Act (WTS). The RVO is responsible for its implementation. The compensation is intended for reasonably uninsurable damage. However, many Limburgers also received compensation for damage that could be insured, as it turned out. This is because it was not clear what exactly came under the term ‘household contents’.

A broader definition will be used for the remedial action. Gardens and pavement and damage to a caravan, garden house or boat are in any case not included, the RVO reports.

‘Undesirable’
The RVO calls the situation ‘undesirable’ and says it will only accommodate the victims in this specific situation. No claims can therefore be made for claims that are not related to last year’s high water.

The fee applies to both people who have already registered and new registrations. Private individuals who have not yet made a claim with the RVO can report until 1 July 2022. More than 19 million has now been paid to victims.
