Rest on an almost imperceptible movement of water, open the windows and contemplate a natural landscape, disconnect from the noise of the city and surround yourself with native flora and fauna. That is the proposal of the floating constructions, an architectural trend that grows in the region with an ecological and avant-garde stamp.
More and more investors decide to bet on a houseboat At the same time, the demand of people who want to rent a house or a room of these characteristics to spend a weekend or a vacation is growing. In Laguna Garzón (Uruguay), the Argentines Gabriel Barbot Y Nadir tasat they decided to buy the hotel Garzón Lodge, a complex located in a protected natural area. On this side of the Río de La Plata, Fabian De Martino is the builder and designer of Water Houses, an enterprise that manufactures and sells floating homes in the San Fernando Club and the Buenos Aires Club; Y Hannibal Guiser Gleyzer is the creator and developer of Economic Hippocampus, the first neighborhood of its kind located in Maschwitz. Although each one has a different search, the three agree that this type of construction is in full expansion.
Hotels and houseboats: anti-stress nature
The Garzón Lodge It is located 37 kilometers from Punta del Este. The 12 rooms and the restaurant that are part of the complex float on the lagoon that is part of the National System of Protected Areas between the departments of Maldonado and Rocha. The connection with nature is guaranteed for all its visitors. “In the place there is only our hotel and a small town of 15 fishermen, the only ones authorized to live there. The lagoon is a world-renowned bird reserve. The other day, for example, I was sleeping in one of the rooms and when I woke up there was a sea lion outside. I had to bang on the window to make it come out. It is a unique experience ”, he says Barbot to NEWS.
To get to the rooms, guests have to move with marinas, as if they were on a dock. In addition, the Garzón Lodge it was intended as a sustainable construction. “It is all made of wood and there is a waste treatment process so as not to pollute. We clarify to people that the water for bathing, for example, can be a bit salty because it comes out of the lagoon. The ecological thing has a lot of weight ”, added the owner of the establishment.
The one in Uruguay is the first floating hotel in Latin America. However, this type of construction already had a history in Argentina in private homes. Water Houses It was one of the first ventures of its kind. From Martino, its founder, met this type of house ten years ago in Europe and decided to transfer the idea to the Delta. To date, he has built and sold about twenty houses. Nine are tied up at the Buenos Aires Club, where the project started, and nine at the San Fernando Club, where they started working about a year and a half ago.
“Still no one told me ‘make me a house that I will take to my island’. Normally, I sell them when there is a space to put them. For example, now in the San Fernando Club there is a space where the owner can pay the rent of the moorings, but it works the same as with the boats, if you later want to go to another club, you can do it ”, he says From Martino to NEWS.
Water Houses offers two models of homes, loft and duplex. Most buyers use it as a weekend home, although that is changing. People now live permanently in three of the San Fernando properties. The owners must become members of the club where their homes are tied up and, consequently, they can enjoy all the benefits of the place. “The San Fernando Club has eight hectares with all the comforts. You have four restaurants, all sports, helmsman courses, whatever you want ”, he adds From Martino.
Although the concept of a houseboat is similar, the search for Economic Hippocampus It is completely different and aims to think about how you can inhabit nature without damaging the ecosystem. “As a neighborhood itself, this is the only one in the world. I found out very recently because an English publisher is writing a book on this type of construction and they contacted us “, he tells NOTICIAS Guiser gleyzer and adds: “The project emerged as a way of adapting permaculture to wetlands. If we wanted to build houses here, the best we could do was float ”.
Econáutico Hipocampo is part of the Natural Estate projects and, at present, the neighborhood already has eight houses completed and some under construction. In the future, the goal is to reach 30 homes. “It is a different proposal to that of a closed neighborhood, since here the search is to be in harmony with nature. In any case, that does not mean that they are not modern houses with all the services and comforts ”, underlines its developer. Among the architectural alternatives that stand out to these constructions we can mention the use of kiri wood, a material as light as balsa wood and as resistant as pine, whose felling does not affect native forests, as well as natural ventilation systems without air conditioned and their negative effects on the environment.
