A bus accident occurred in Carinthia on Tuesday in which a 19-year-old Austrian woman died and a 25-year-old German woman was seriously injured.
A total of around 20 people were injured in the accident in the St. Veit an der Glan district near Micheldorf, the Austrian news agency APA reported, citing the police. The double-decker bus from Flixbus, which had started in Berlin, had left the road.
Most of the injured were taken to the Friesach hospital, the report said. The seriously injured German was taken to the Klagenfurt Clinic. According to APA, 55 firefighters were involved in the rescue operation and the clean-up work at the accident site.
According to the report, the accident occurred early in the morning around 4:45 a.m. The bus, which was traveling to Trieste, Italy with two drivers and 40 passengers, left the road on a federal highway, tipped over a guardrail and fell onto its side. The cause was initially unclear; according to the APA, alcohol tests on the drivers were negative.
A police spokeswoman told APA that the coach started in Berlin and was supposed to travel to Trieste via Linz. There were people from several countries on board; the spokeswoman named Austria, Slovenia, Italy, Germany and Ukraine as the countries of origin.
