Flick pleased with Hummels’ “good form”.

Rio world champion and BVB defender Mats Hummels can still hope for a nomination for the World Cup in Qatar (November 20th to December 18th).

“I’m happy that Mats is in such good shape,” said national coach Hansi Flick before the classic between Borussia Dortmund and record champions Bayern Munich on “Sky”. He is in regular contact with the defense specialists, according to the DFB head coach.

Hummels returns to the starting eleven of the black and yellow on Saturday. Most recently, various ex-national players had campaigned for a comeback of the 33-year-old Hummels in the selection of the German Football Association (DFB). “I think he belongs in the team in terms of performance, at his current level. But the coach has to decide that,” Michael Ballack said recently to “SID” at the presentation of the World Cup team by “MagentaTV” in Berlin.

“I think that Mats Hummels is extremely fit this season and therefore plays at a high level,” said “Sport1” expert Stefan Effenberg.

Mario Basler, on the other hand, cannot imagine a World Cup comeback for the BVB veteran: “He doesn’t stand a chance with the national team. Hummels’ time for big international games is over.”
