According to national coach Hansi Flick, the unexpectedly early substitution of full-back Lukas Klostermann at the only World Cup test in Oman was discussed in advance.
“It was exactly what was planned, including the replacement of Lukas Klostermann after 30 minutes,” said Flick after the German team’s tough 1-0 (0-0) on the TV station “RTL”.
The Leipzig monastery man was nominated for the World Cup despite months of injury and was allowed to play in Oman from the start.
After a good half hour, defender Armel Bella Kotchap came on for the 26-year-old. Klostermann tore his syndesmosis ligament after the first day of the Bundesliga match and was out until shortly before the World Cup. RB coach Marco Rose recently said that Leipzig would need a “special program” in preparation for the World Cup with the national team.
Despite the unconvincing performance of his team, the national coach judged mildly: “Everything was okay, it fulfilled its purpose.” Flick had given some top performers a break and, above all, given players opportunities to play who still want to recommend themselves for a place in the World Cup starting eleven. “We want to let this game sink in, but nothing has changed that much,” said Flick about his personal considerations.
