Flexible homes PBH site Zuidlaren must give Tynaarlo’s housing market some breathing space

According to alderman Miguel Ririhena (GroenLinks), the pressure to find good accommodation for nearly a hundred status holders in the municipality of Tynaarlo is ‘very high’. That is why he hopes to come up with a clear plan for flexible accommodation on the Prins Bernhardhoeve site in Zuidlaren as soon as possible.

The city council is in any case asked to make an amount of 750,000 euros available for preparing the site for construction. With that money, utilities, access roads and sewerage must be put in order. Mayor Marcel Thijsen already announced in December last year that the municipality wants to build flexible homes on the PBH site as soon as possible.

The houses are specifically intended for ‘status holders’: asylum seekers who have been granted a residence permit in the Netherlands. Last year, the municipality of Tynaarlo failed to meet the targets set by the province of Drenthe. “The accommodation of 12 status holders from last year is still open,” says alderman Ririhena. “Another 82 status holders will be added this year.”

In addition, mayor Thijsen previously indicated that emergency seekers who, for example, come from campsites where recreational habitation is enforced, may also be able to find accommodation in flexible homes.

“The housing market is completely stuck,” says Ririhena. “You also see that with people who are waiting for a social rental home. As a municipality, we have too few social rental homes. I believe that 15 percent of our homes fall into that category, while national policy is 30 percent. With flexible housing, we hope to get some air in the housing market.”

If it is up to him, those homes will be realized as soon as possible. “We have to meet the tasks of the province of Drenthe. We also need the province. In the background we are already talking to parties who will build and operate the temporary homes.”

Because tomorrow’s council meeting is canceled due to the death of councilor John Franke, it will be a while before the money is available to prepare the PBH site for construction. The intention is that the flexible homes will be on the back of the Prins Bernhardhoeve site for a maximum of 7 years.
