The winning streak of the former German champions and Champions League winners SG Flensburg-Handewitt in the Handball Bundesliga (HBL) has broken.
Coach Maik Machulla’s team did not get better than 27:27 (14:13) at Frisch Auf Göppingen on the 23rd matchday and lost an important point after the last six successes in a row in the championship race. With 33:11 points, the North Germans are now fifth in the table, four minus points behind leaders Füchse Berlin (39:7).
The SG did not live up to their role as favorites in the first German European Cup winner from the start. A game developed at eye level, neither team sat down. Flensburg still had the chance to score the winning goal in the final minute with possession of the ball, but the Norwegian Magnus Röd made a technical error.
The best thrower of the game was Göppingen’s David Schmidt with eight goals, while Emil Jakobsen (7/4) and Röd (6) were the most successful scorers for the guests.
