Earlier this year, the job bonus for employees was already approved. Now there is also the bonus for self-employed starting out. Employees with a gross monthly salary of 2,500 euros or less receive two 600 euros when they switch to entrepreneurship. Those who were already working as a self-employed person in a secondary occupation are also entitled to the support.
According to an estimate by Minister of Work Jo Brouns (CD&V), just over 11,000 new self-employed persons would be entitled to the premium. Nine out of ten of them are expected to still be working as a self-employed person after a year. The government allocates 15 million euros annually for support.
In contrast to the regular job bonus, it was not decided for the self-employed to decrease the amount of the support according to the higher income. According to Minister Brouns, a degressive amount would not provide the same incentive to start as a self-employed person as a main occupation.
