Fleetwood Mac singer Christine McVie has died

Christine McVie — the longtime singer, keyboardist and songwriter for Fleetwood Mac — has died at the age of 79.

The band confirmed McVie’s death in a statement on social media. “There are no words to describe our sadness at the passing of Christine McVie. She was truly unique, special and talented beyond measure. She was the best musician you could have in your band and the best friend you could have in your life. We were lucky to have a life with her. Individually and collectively, we treasured Christine immensely and are grateful for the wonderful memories we have of her. We will miss her so much.”

Family asks for privacy

In a statement, McVie’s family said she died in a hospital today, November 30, “after a short illness.” “She was with her family. We ask that you respect the family’s privacy at this extremely painful time and we want everyone to hold Christine in their hearts and remember the life of an incredible human being and an adored musician who was loved by all. RIP Christine McVie,” the statement said.

McVie joined Fleetwood Mac in 1970. She penned or co-wrote some of the band’s most memorable songs, including Rumors classics “Don’t Stop” and “You Make Loving Fun,” as well as “Hold Me,” “Little Lies,” and ” Over My Head”. She left the group after their big reunion tour in 1998. She returned to Fleetwood Mac in 2014 after a lengthy hiatus from the stage and public. She last played with the band in 2019.
