Flash! So many speeding fines were handed out in Zoetermeer last year

The speed camera on the Zwaardslootseweg is notorious in Zoetermeer. Even though Zoetermeer residents know that the pole is there, it still flashed a lot of fines in 2022. And that pole is not the only one that did its job last year…

It Central Judicial Collection Agency has announced the figures for the whole of 2022. A total of 8,153,043 traffic fines were issued in the Netherlands, of which 6,512,086 for violating the speed limit.

Speeding fines in Zoetermeer

A large part of those fines came from the speed cameras. The city’s only speed camera also did its job in Zoetermeer, because a total of 3,418 fines were issued because of this speed camera. Of these, 2,774 were for speeding and 644 for running a red light. This speed camera is located at the intersection between Zwaardslootseweg and Filmlaan.

Just outside Zoetermeer

Along the Zoetermeerse Rijweg, the road between Zoetermeer towards The Hague and along Leidschenveen is a well-known spot with a number of speed cameras. They also resulted in the necessary fines:

  • Zoetermeerse Rijweg, junction Emmy Belinfantedreef
    Speeding fines: 2,061, number of red flags: 116

    Speeding fines: 8,157, number of red flags: 280
  • Zoetermeerse Rijweg, crossing Spieringdam
    Speeding fines: 2,163, number of red flags: 70

You can already see it: the significant winner of the most number of speeding fines is the speed camera on the Zoetermeerse Rijweg, at the intersection with the Oude Middenweg. This is located near ESSO Leidschenveen.

Of the more than 6.5 million fines for speeding, 3,014,680 were issued because of the Dutch speed cameras. In 2021 there were 2,830,213. That’s an increase of about 6.5 percent. 1,340,692 speeding offenses with mobile radar sets were also recorded, compared to 1,509,650 a year earlier.
