An international benchmark of the child-supervisor ratio in childcare confirms what many already felt: Flanders has the highest ratio with 1 supervisor per 9 (or 8) children. A study by the Research Institute for Labor and Society (HIVA) shows that elsewhere the ratio is a maximum of 3 to 8 children. Flemish Minister of Welfare Hilde Crevits promises to take this into account. “We can only conclude that we must embark on the path to lowering the ratio,” said Crevits.
