Flame on torch in Zeebrugge: for maintenance work

At the LNG terminal in the port of Zeebrugge, operations will take place from Monday 8 May 2023 at 6 a.m. where gas can be diverted to the torch.”says Knokke-Heist.

“This can happen (intermittently) until Sunday 14 May at 6 p.m. During this period, a flame can be observed from the beach of Knokke-Heist at the height of the top of the torch. The torch is in a safe and high location positioned in view of the possible radiant heat.”

Make gas free

“The torch is not used in normal operation, so that a visible flame only occurs in specific cases. During this period, part of the installation is made safe to carry out major maintenance work.

In order to be able to carry out these works in safe conditions, it is important to make the work zone gas-free and to keep it that way during the entire maintenance period. To avoid methane emissions, the LNG employees opt for the controlled combustion of the natural gas, a more environmentally friendly solution than natural gas venting.

In the week of May 30, there will be a 2nd period with a visible flame.”
