It is a striking phenomenon in our province: farmers who drive around on their tractors with the Dutch tricolor on their head. And we also see flags fluttering at farms with the blue strip at the top. “It is a form of protest”, says foreman Dirk Bruins of agricultural organization LTO.
“The farmers do this to report injustice,” adds his colleague Albert Steenbergen from Pesse. “It’s a cry for attention, some farmers are flying the flag at half mast, with the same goal.”
