Without purchase option
The Portuguese U21 international Fábio Carvalho will spend the coming season in the Bundesliga as expected. RB Leipzig officially confirmed the loan of the 20-year-old offensive talent from Liverpool. This is scheduled for one year and, according to consistent media reports, does not include a purchase option. The Saxons are said to have previously asked Carvalho to stay longer – but the Reds refused. At the end of May there was also an offer for a permanent transfer, also without success.
Under coach Jürgen Klopp, after his transfer, Carvalho received training compensation of 5.9 million euros, which Fulham FC received a year ago, at the beginning of the season. Recently, however, he was hardly on the field. In the Premier League alone, there were just two brief appearances in the current calendar year. Ultimately, there are 637 minutes in 21 games across all competitions, which is an average of 30 minutes per game. In addition, its market value fell from EUR 20 million to EUR 16 million. When asked about Carvalho at the end of the season, Klopp said that he was “a kind of role model” for how he was dealing with the situation.

In Leipzig he should now collect more playing time. Carvalho has played in almost every position in midfield and attack in his career, including youth, since 2017/18 – but most often in attacking midfield (70 times). With Christopher Nkunku (25; Chelsea), a player with a similar profile left RB this summer, but has already been replaced with Christoph Baumgartner (23; Hoffenheim) and Benjamin Sesko (20; Leipzig). Whether it is enough for a regular place at Carvalho is viewed with skepticism in the TM community.
In the past, Leipzig had made deals similar to those with Carvalho and Liverpool with Arsenal and Emile Smith Rowe, as well as Ethan Ampadu and Chelsea. However, both of them hardly got a chance at the Bundesliga side.

Carvalho explained: “It’s a big step for me as a young player to move from England to the Bundesliga and RB Leipzig. I’m joining a team that is very strong and has been very successful in recent years. I would now like to help build on that and am really looking forward to this new challenge. My aim is to play as much as possible – in the league, in the cup and especially in the UEFA Champions League. RB Leipzig is committed to giving young players that opportunity and that’s why the club is perfect for me to be able to develop further.”
