Fix! Niclas Füllkrug is moving to Borussia Dortmund

After a long search, Borussia Dortmund has finally found the desired backup for attacker Sébastien Haller and once again prominently strengthened shortly before the end of the transfer window. With Niclas Füllkrug, the reigning top scorer is moving from Werder Bremen to BVB.

The clubs announced this on Thursday evening. Füllkrug signed a contract with BVB until 2026 and will wear jersey number 14 in the future.

In Dortmund, the goalgetter should collect six million euros a year. The clubs agreed not to disclose the transfer fee for the 30-year-old, according to media reports it should be 15 million euros – well below the 20 million euros originally called by Werder.

“Niclas is an attacking player, very good in the air, physically present, he convinces in one-on-one duels and is unpleasant for his opponent in a duel. With all these skills, he embodies the profile we were looking for,” praised BVB- Sports Director Sebastian Kehl the newcomer, who also fits in perfectly with the Revierklub.

“Niclas is burning for the job at Borussia Dortmund. We’re looking forward to this positive guy who will tear himself up for our club. BVB has ambitious goals in three competitions and we are convinced that with Niclas we are even better positioned”, so Kehl further.

Füllkrug: BVB “a very special club”

For Füllkrug, a dream has come true with the transfer. “Borussia Dortmund is a very special club. I was very happy about the offer because joining this club is exactly what I wanted,” said the international.

At BVB, the native of Hanover is expected to form the second lead behind Sébastien Haller – and probably displace his national team colleague Youssoufa Moukoko. Füllkrug could already make his debut for Borussia in the important Bundesliga game against promoted team 1. FC Heidenheim on Friday (8:30 p.m.).

Werder Bremen thanked the top striker and referred to the openly communicated transfer strategy. “We said from the start of the transfer window that we really wanted to keep Niclas, but that we had to sit down if an offer came in that was right for everyone involved. That was the case, so in the end we made the decision Selling Niclas. We would like to thank Abundance for the outstanding performance in recent years and wish him all the best in Dortmund,” said Clemens Fritz, head of professional football at Werder Bremen.
