Third coaching station
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard is making his next coaching commitment after leaving Aston Villa in Saudi Arabia. The former England international takes over at Saudi Pro League side Ettifaq FC. The portal “The Athletic” had already reported on the forthcoming agreement on Monday, and in the early evening the club reported completion on social networks.
According to previous reports, Gerrard initially turned down an offer after traveling to Saudi Arabia for talks in June. However, negotiations were resumed last week. High-ranking personalities of the club are said to have convinced Gerrard to sign a contract. The 43-year-old will be the coach of ex-Bundesliga pros Robin Quaison, Marcel Tisserand and Amin Younes, among others.
Ronaldo (still) on top: Most valuable players in the Saudi Pro League
After world footballers Ronaldo and Marcelo Brozovic (both Al-Nassr) as well as Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kanté (both Al-Ittihad), Gerrard is the next European football great to be drawn to the kingdom. After Glasgow Rangers and Aston Villa, it is the Englishman’s third stop as a coach, with the Scots he was able to win the championship title in 2021.
