Ada Hegerberg returns to the national team after five years. The 26-year-old attacker from Olympique Lyon decided in 2017 to no longer stand for the Norwegian national team, out of dissatisfaction with the approach of the Norwegian federation. After the necessary talks with the union, Hegerberg is now returning.
,,I am happy that we have now found a good solution together”, says Hegerberg, who scored 38 goals in 66 international matches. ,,I hope to contribute as much as possible to the team and I will continue to fight for equality, both on and off the field. Now I can finally do that again with the national flag on my chest.”
Hegerberg received the first Ballon d’Or (Golden Ball) for women in 2018. Two years earlier, she had already been chosen as the best football player in Europe. Norway will play World Cup qualifiers against Kosovo and Poland next month. At the European Championship next summer, the Norwegian football players are in the group with host country England, Austria and Northern Ireland.
Hegerberg suffered a serious knee injury at the beginning of 2020 and only made her return to Lyon at the end of last year, 21 months later. The Norwegian is a teammate of Orange international Daniëlle van de Donk there.
