Five years after the fire, Bergen has a new ‘state of the art’ swimming and sports complex

Just under five years after the old De Beeck Sports Complex went up in flames, a brand new sports center is located on the same spot in Bergen. Streekstad Centraal saw at the opening party that the complex is ready for use.

Yesterday the new De Beeck was officially opened. A lifeguard A symbolic bunch of keys emerged from the pool and handed them over to Mayor Lars Voskuil. With his neat shoes in shallow swimming water, he handed over the keys to Vincent Thijssen, director of Holland Sport.

Mayor Voskuil is impressed: “Doesn’t this make you happy? I mean everything, the building is fantastic, the sustainability behind it, the whole idea behind it, all those users who can go here… everything about this building is just good.” and beautiful and that makes you very proud and happy,” he said against Regional City Central.

At operator Holland Sport they are also happy with the complex and the return of clubs and associations to their old location. Operations manager Eddy Bakker: “A number of things have returned, such as the billiards club – not in the basement but on the first floor.”

In addition, the council chamber has also returned and ‘two very nice meeting rooms have been added for the municipality of Bergen’.

“We have realized two multi-sport halls, a very large sports hall that can be divided into three, and two basins. So something has been rebuilt and something has been added. We have been looking forward to this for five years, both the staff and the swimming lessons children, as the associations, so we are incredibly happy.”

The complete rebuilding of De Beeck offers opportunities for innovation and sustainability, according to alderman Erik Bekkering. “It’s super well insulated, we have over 880 solar panels – we’re a big energy generator, the heat from the air is reused, the heat from the water is reused. It’s just state of the art in terms of sustainability and low energy consumption.”

Today the opening week ends with the BEST Happy Day. Neighborhood sports coaches from the municipality of Bergen organize activities throughout the sports complex until 6 p.m. Furthermore, there is functional fitness with Bodyvit. It concludes at 7:00 PM with a final tour of approximately one hour.
