Five-year ranking: Bundesliga is losing ground

Sobering start to 2022 for the Bundesliga. In the round of 16 of the Champions League, in the intermediate rounds and round of 16 of the Europa and Conference Leagues, the German clubs only scored 1.857 points for the five-year ranking of the European Football Union (UEFA). For comparison: leaders England came in at 3.143, pursuers Spain at 4.286 and Italy at 2.571.

England became the first nation to break 100 points this season. The Bundesliga can still have a glimmer of hope to close the gap of 2.832 points to Italy. The Azzurri are no longer represented in the Champions League, but Germany is with Bayern Munich. And in the other two Euro leagues it is 2-2 thanks to Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig.

Incidentally, Germany will start next season third in the UEFA five-year ranking anyway. Because the Bundesliga then only loses 9.857 points from the 2017/18 season, but Calcio loses 17.333.

The exclusion of Russian teams saw Scotland move up to ninth place.
