Five street style trends from Stockholm Fashion Week

Attendees at Stockholm Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2022 all showcased the elevated style that Scandinavian fashion is typically known for.

Clean cuts, elevated minimalism and sleek tailoring are at the core of the Nordic aesthetic, and this edition’s street style was no exception. Looks ranged from casual-chic to structured cuts to classic silhouettes, which made a comeback.

As the Swedish fashion hub closes its doors for this season, FashionUnited has compiled the most popular trends from visitors to the event from a fairly snowy Stockholm.

aviator jackets

From cropped to oversized, aviator jackets have been seen both on the street and on the fashion week runways. The timeless jacket style turned out to be the most popular item of clothing of the winter season for many visitors. Most notably, with a fluffy lining and oversized collar, the basic model appeared more as a fashion item, often without the traditional design details like laced cuffs and waist belt.

Structured suits

The structured suit was a surprisingly common design element among the participants this year. Exaggerated shoulder pads and tailored cuts contrasted with more casually dressed guests, who instead opted for loose-fitting and baggy clothing. Many suits featured classic tattersall or madras fabric patterns that underscored the formal wear trend. This style was also seen on some of the catwalks, such as Filippa K, who also opted for a clean cut.

Classic trench coats

The trench coat was one of the most eye-catching styles to hit the streets of Stockholm this season. Above all, the classic silhouette of the trench coat seemed to be very popular with many visitors. Almost all who wore the conventional coat stuck to the signature neutral tones and either wore it with a belt or left it open to reveal an underlying outfit.

Casual chic

In line with the current trend towards casual working life, many guests chose relaxed looks that emphasized both comfort and style. Oversized hoodies and cozy sweatpants have been spiced up with eye-catching accessories, double-breasted coats and eye-catching shoes like moon boots or trendy sneakers. Given the often long days of fashion week, going casual seems like a smart alternative.

Meaningful coats

The long coat is a classic winter model, but this year the participants opted for bolder interpretations that breathed a little life into the standard silhouette. Bold graphics and bright colors were distinctive design details that placed the coat at the forefront of the outfit, making it a statement piece that made an impact. Statement coats have also graced the catwalks of numerous designers such as Stand Studio, who showcased a wide range of vibrant fur coats in bright primary colors and exaggerated shapes.
