Five people arrested for trading false corona evidence

Today the police searched eight homes in De Rijp, Amsterdam, Amstelveen, Almere and Utrecht and four people arrested for trafficking in false corona evidence. A fifth person later turned himself in to the police station and was arrested there.

It concerns four men and a woman between 22 and 37 years old. According to the police, it is not so much about one organized group, but about several ‘intermediaries’. Three other suspects are still being sought.

The police estimate that the traders traded tens to hundreds of false corona certificates per person, earning many tens of thousands of euros. This money will be confiscated.

How did the police track them down?

The police tracked down the traders after the arrest of five other corona evidence traders. They worked as externally hired employees of the GGD at the information desk for travelers at Schiphol.

A follow-up investigation by the police showed that one of these suspects made use of several brokers and that is how these other eight suspects came to the surface, of which five have now been arrested and three are still being sought.

How did the traders proceed?

People who wanted a corona proof could send the brokers their BSN numbers and dates of birth via WhatsApp. This data was then passed on to the temporary worker at Schiphol, who then made a QR code for the intermediary to sell to the ‘customer’ for hundreds of euros.
