Five classes of Ukrainians learn Dutch in adult education
Across Flanders, 800 Ukrainian refugees are now following an intensive Dutch language course in adult education. At Scala in Bruges, five new classes of basic Dutch course were launched in two weeks. Some take classes up to four times a week.
“Dutch is a hard language”
“It is now the second week that the students follow Dutch. These are the beginner steps, but they have already learned the basics,” explains language teacher Ingrid. Lina Borysowa is a Ukrainian student: Dutch is quite difficult, but I’m lucky that I can speak a little German. I’ve learned the basics of that in the past and we have some words that are similar.”
“The agency had informed us that we could expect an influx, but this was not noticeable before the Easter holidays. A lot has changed in two weeks,” says Kim Depovere of Scala Adult Education Bruges.
