Fit in half an hour a week: ‘People are amazed at themselves’

Has it been a while since you pulled out your sports clothes or are you afraid that getting fit will become a real obstacle for you? FitHealth in Zoetermeer proves the opposite. “In hindsight you think: wow, I’m just fit!” says gym owner Karsten Buitendam.

His gym has been around for 12.5 years now. “A lot has changed in the neighborhood, but also with us. Before corona, everyone could exercise freely. That is still possible, but we have specialized and offer a transparent plan.” In five steps you can change from a professional couch potato to an absolute fit girl or boy. Karsten tells all about the plan.

Only half an hour of training per week

The first step is the introduction. “We enter into a conversation with you: what do you want to achieve and what can we do for you.” Then you start with the plan that consists of four phases of ten to twelve weeks. “The goal is to achieve as much as possible with as few training hours as possible.”

In the first phase you only train for half an hour a week. You do this independently, when it suits you. “The plan is not just about training. Nutrition and lifestyle are also included in this. We are slowly building that up.” Very feasible, even if you start from scratch.

Build up from your level

It is possible to skip the first stage. “People who exercise weekly or often cycle to work or school, for example, can already take a step further.” The phases build up: you train a little longer and more often. Every phase something new is added. Karsten explains how that works.

“In the second phase, mobility training will also be added. After that, you not only train individually, but also follow functional classes or HIT classes. The last phase is mainly about making the training heavier or more intensive.” Whether you choose HIT or functional classes—or both—depends on your goal.

Strength or cardio

The difference is simple: strength versus cardio. “We call functional lessons small group training. You can follow such a lesson with a maximum of eight people. Here the focus is on strength.” If your goal is to get stronger or get bigger muscles, this is what you’re looking for.

HIT stands for High Intensity Training. That means cardio! “If losing weight is your main goal, these are the ideal workouts. You also build up fitness with this.” Of course you can also follow both courses.

Trainers and app

Every ten to twelve weeks you check with your trainer how things are going: what is going well, what are you encountering and what do you want to achieve with the next phase. “Every time people get a new schedule, they think: can I do this?! The answer is yes, you can. Time and time again, people are amazed at their own abilities.”

The trainers are of course more present FitHealth in Zoetermeer. You can see exactly when in the app. “In the app you can also see your plan, watch instructional videos for your workouts and watch them back.” So very handy, that app!

Best fitness club in Zoetermeer

Just this year, FitHealth was awarded the title of Best Fitness Club in Zoetermeer: an award from the Dutch Fitness Awards. The great thing about the club: everyone feels at ease. “The atmosphere here is so pleasant, it feels like you are at home. Everyone knows each other and you can walk in at any time. It really is a family.”

Just like family, the trainers look after the people. “If you suddenly don’t come to train for a while, we’ll call you to ask why and whether you’re doing well. Together we will see what we can do for you.”

Nice atmosphere and your way

Either way, you’ll feel comfortable here. It’s up to you how you want to train. “You are under no obligation to follow the plan. You can also train independently or take group lessons. Those who prefer to work more intensively with a personal trainer can also contact us.”

Best of all, whichever choice you make, the price tag is the same. For a fixed amount per month you can come and work out independently, follow all classes and get help from a trainer. You can cancel monthly after one year. “We also have a try-out option: the first ten days are free. If you don’t like it, you still have ten days to cancel your subscription.”
