At the age of 76 you should pay attention to your health even in hectic showbiz. Sir Elton John stuck to this motto. He therefore canceled his guest appearance in the Mannheim SAP Arena “due to illness”. A bad infection had brought the “Rocketman” from concert heaven.
On May 12, his German concert organizer Dirk Becker Entertainment announced: “Elton hates letting his fans down and is devastated that he is not able to play the last show for his loyal fans”.
Now there is a grand all-clear.
The performance scheduled for Cologne’s Lanxess Arena as part of his farewell world tour on May 16 takes place today. The other two dates of his residency on the Rhine on May 18th and 19th can also take place as planned.
In the end, the indestructible English superstar only took a 48-hour break on the advice of his doctors. Thus, after Elton John’s hip operation and the interim Covid measures, the fans on the Rhine can (yet) enjoy the piano spectacle that has been postponed several times.
After the Cologne live trilogy, the Maestro continues to Barcelona, Belgium, France and to his hometown London for a glamourama party.
The first shows in Great Britain were already enthusiastically celebrated by the local press. The “Liverpool Echo” spoke of a “powerful and dazzling show before he retires.” “Birmingham Live” saw the “emotional farewell of a true legend”.
The conclusion from Northern England: “The global megastar asserts itself impressively and shines on stage on the solo piano.”
